I am looking for background info an the impact of selecting different levels for the different severity and facility levels. I have found resources discussing the options, just not much about what each of the options provide.

TIA

I would suggest keep the default and if you are troubleshooting a specific problem, you can increase the logging level of that facility to the level desired.

Is there a problem/issue with increasing the logging level?

The default logging levels don't tell you very much. Increasing the logging can alert you to problems you didn't even know about. eg. not having udld enabled on both ends of a link. You have to have udld logging set to level 7 before the switch will tell you it's enabled on one side and not the other. Ports on core/distribution layer switches should not be changing... setting dtp, pagp and spanning tree logging to level 6 lets you know if they do.

Other than the increased syslog file size and traffic, are there any issues with increasing the logging level?

TIA,

Lee
