6509 port status is "monitor" ???

before it was working fine and yesterday i just changed the patch cable which was very long and i used short cable which is tested and working.now when i use it for the port 2/1 its not getting the network and when i see sh port stat its showing for post 2/1 status is "monitor" and all others are connected and not connected.

what it means i wana use the same port for the machine which is win98.

When the status says "monitor" it means that port is a SPAN destination port. See if you have configured 2/1 to be SPAN destination port. Do a "show span" to check for this. You can find more info on the SPAN feature on CCO
