can anyone tell me how I make only traffic for the 10.1.0.0/16 network just go through the vpn tunnel and everything else that goes through the serial interface gets blocked ?

Hi Friend,

You have to apply static route for 10.1.0.0/16 which goes via vpn tunnel and default route points to serial interface.
