backing up the back up line

We have recently run into a situation, and I have been charged with finding a solution. I believe I have a solution, but am needing guidance for implementing it.

We are currently using fram-relay for wan data communications, as a DDR (backup) solution we are using ISDN.

Recently we ran into the problem of a cut in cable to a remote location. Both frame and ISDN were in the same bundle. We lost all communications with the remote location EXCEPT for POTS. I could dial-in to the remote router and verify their network was fine.

For a possible solution, I have an older 2511 that is a redundent piece of equipment. I would like to try and use two async lines at the remote location and connect to the internet, (this is for better bandwidth). Then VPN to our network center and re-establish communications.

Problem #1 - can i get two of the async line bound for aggregate bandwidth?

Problem #2 - Can I tunnel over both async lines if they are a group?

YES..Router receiving the "multilink" async calls over POTS lines can aggregate the data togather from both the lines..In other words you can have more then one async calls in a router aggregated togather to achive higher bandwidth..Here are some sample config,

For POTS line you just need group-async interface and virtual-template interface

Close.......I am looking to Dial an ISP with both modems. aggregate that bandwidth and establish a VPN connection over the internet.

The other solution you provided is completely viable, but more costly. The hope is to have the remote aggregate the bandwidth and VPN to a 3005 concentrator.

I am reviewing the URL's for multiLink PPP to see what I can do here.

You need to talk to ISP in the case to allow async "ppp multilink" connection so that links can be bundled togather at their router...
