I have a configuration on BGP that requires for 5 Neighbors 4 locally (same switch) and on that is at the end of a serial link, my question is does the neighbor need to directly connected or can I route the BGP information across the serial link and is thier any special config I need to put in either the serial routers or my BGP routers to make this possible.

Many thanks

Ian

iBGP does not require the peers to be directly connected interface.

eBGP are usually on directly connected interface. If you want to establish a eBGP seesion on a non directly connected interface, you need to use the "nei x.x.x.x ebgp-multihop" command. You might also need to specify the source address for the BGP session with the "nei x.x.x.x update-source " command.

Let me know if this answer your question.
