Hi,
What exactly "*-valid" in bgp table means? What is checked before a route is signed with this code? Next-hop reachability or anything else?
thanks

The prefix is marked as valid if received from a peer or locally originated. The next hop reachability doesn't affect this flag.
Hope this helps,

Hi,
So what are the circumstances under which the prefix would not be marked as valid ?
Paresh.

When a path is dampened among other conditions. In such a case, the prefix is not received anymore from the peer. It is kept for the sake of conserving the history information and is not marked as valid.
Hope this helps,

thanks for your useful info. Is there any document that explains this "validation" check process?
