Broadcasts on 2950

We are currently running an ATM WAN over 3 sites (a flat network for now as we migrated from Marconi equipment) using three 7206 routers, three 3550 switches, and close to thrity 2950 switches. My concern is that I am seeing what I believe to be a tremendous amount of broadcasts. For example, looking at the GIG0/1 port on one switch shows 29429496 broadcasts. Unfortunately, I do not have a baseline, but the number of broadcasts appears to be high. Any thoughts, ideas on this?

Hi,

the absolute number is not so important as the ratio to all frames number.

The "Designing Cisco Networks" (CCDA training) book says there should not be more than 20 percent of broadcasts/multicasts on a healthy Ethernet segment.

I would clear the counters and see how fast is the broadcast number increasing comparing to the all frames number, too.
