Can I SPAN any port on a 6509 to the SUP720 SFP port?

I've tried to set up a monitor session between ports on either a 24-port SFP blade, or a 48-port 10/100/1000 blade to one of the SUP720 SFP ports and I can never get packets to span over to the SUP720 port so I can capture them with a sniffer. Here are the monitor config statements:

monitor session 1 source interface Gi8/10

monitor session 1 destination interface Gi5/1

The IOS is 12.2(18)SXD2. Should I be able to span ports to the SUP720?
