Hi Support techs,
Am going to ask a silly question
Can you add your ISP into your routing table or is this just for subnets etc to communicate to the outside world?
If so. Can someone give me a link to do this
I have a 2691 MPS router
IOS is C2691-IPVOICEK9-M), Version 12.4(25d)
Thanks in advance
1 more question.
Is setting up an access list via ip nat outside and inside the only way to give internal devices internet access?

hello John,
try this:
traceroute IP_ISP, from your cme_router. If the first hop in the table result it is your gateway and then nothing comes, you should maybe look at the gateway.

Hello Jhon,
usually you set:
config#ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 [ip_isp or the interface directly connected to the isp f.e. fe0/0],
if your router do not find a path to some subnet, it will send its packet with this default route,
this is usually for comunication to the internet.
Nat it is the only way to give access to internet to a lot of users or devices, otherwise it is needed one public ip per user.
Remember that Private addresses are not routed on public networks.
Regards.

Thanks aheredia05
I will try this tonight when I get home.
Does ip route work on a router without internet access
ie a router that may be bridged to a modem having internet access...

To add to this aheredia05,
When setting up ip nat outside for selected interface, wouldn't this external ip address change occasionally as I would often see when checking "what is my ip" or am I overthinking this too much?

hello John,
if you do not have a static public ip assigned by your ISP, you would see everytime a different IP address. But that does not affect the users to use the internet.

Hi aheredia05,
Thanks for your reply.
I have updated the ip route to reflect my ISP SIP server details. I have a default gateway that router connects to. Can ping ISP from def gateway but not from the router.
Have used ip nat inside and outside on interfaces to no affect. Perhaps I am missing something
Is it OK if I post the details?

Would I also have to port forward on my def g/way for this too?

Hello Jhon
of course, some details will be nice.
Regards.
