Normally when I get a brand new box, I get a switch prompt and then I can session 15 into the MSFC.

This new box is different. Get Router> prompt on powerup and cannot get into switch prompt.

Please enlighten.

Thanks

This box runs IOS instead of CatOS. Under IOS you attach to the supervisor and you can configure the (onboard) MSFC from there. Remenber Layer3 functionality is on the MSFC and you already get the "Router>" prompt.

The procedure is simply different from switches running CatOS.

Go to enable mode and you will see that you can configure the entire system from there. The MSFC-console is not needed.

Hi,

The reason that you cannot do a ses 15 to the MSFC is because the image you have is a 'Native' IOS image. This is a version of IOS that controls both the Supervisor and MSFC. So rather than having CatOS for the Supervisor and IOS for the MSFC, it is all rolled into one version of IOS!

Hope this helps

You are running Native IOS. To get to the Switch processor, you need to use the command "remote login switch"

Thanks a lot everybody.
