Cant set speed on the aux port

When I try to configure a speed on the aux port with the "speed" command, I get the message "Failed to change line 65's speed" . Any ideas why I get this?

I'm trying to configure PPP dial-in into a 2600, the router is up and the aux port is unconfig'd.

We reccomend to use "modem autoconfigure discovery" command and let the router set the speed..What speed are you trying to configure?..Pl. refer to following url for the max supported speed on AUX port

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/76/9.html#port_speed

also following is the doc which explains "configuring modem on a router" in detail

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/76/9.html

Here is the link for PPP dialin connection on AUX port

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/701/6.html

Another link which has more modems attached to the router but in your case just use one async interface

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/793/access_dial/pppdialup.html
