CAT 3548-packets per second

I posted a message about a week ago, asking how I could benchmark and baseline my network closets. Well I have been doing some number crunching and gathering. I am up to my neck in reports, graphs, and %Utilization.

Anyway, I have been using Sniffer to gather information. I have found that I am not worried about utilization so much. My bandwidth is not suffering at all. My only question is that there is time I am pushing a lot of packets. Not always large, just a lot of them. Is there a way to figure out how hard the switches are working to processes packets as they come in? I know that my data pipes can handle the data; they are not becoming saturated or bottlenecking. I just want to make sure that the switches can keep up with the packets.

Does anybody know how many packets per second a Cat 3548 can take? Any more information would be helpful.

Thank you

The Catalyst 3548XL can handle 5 Gbps per second. Therefore, the number of packets per second depends on the size of the frame.
