Cat 4500 - Difference Between 48 port and 32 port 10/100 blades

Can someone tell me the major differences between the WS-X4148-RJ 48 port card and the WS-X4232-RJ-XX 32 port blade? In what applications would I want to use the 32 port card instead of the 48 port card?

Thanks!

The WS-X4232-RJ-XX comes with 32 10/100BASE-TX ports and it has 4 optional 100BASE-FX ports on an optional uplink module (WS-U4504-FX-MT). The only reason I can think of why one would use WS-X4232-RJ-XX versus WS-X4148-RJ 48 is if they need these FX ports.

The WS-X4232-RJ-XX 32 has a slot for a modular uplink daughter board. The only thing I know of that you can fit in this slot if a WS-U5404-FX-MT, which gives you 4 x 100BaseFX ports with MTRJ fibre-optic connectors.

But 100BaseFX has rather passed its best as a technology. Now people tend to use Bbit uplinks. Most supervisor cards now have the uplinks built in, but if you have an old 4003 chassis with a GBIC-less SupI, then this means using the WS-W4232-GB-RJ, which has 32 ports of 100BaseTX, and 2 GBIC slots for your uplinks.
