I tried enabling port channel on the GE ports on the Sup IIIG engine, i received a prompt telling me that the feature is not supported. Below is the output of sh version ->

Doing a show port capabilities confirmed that the GE ports on the Sup IIIG engine doesn't support port channel. Upgrading the CatOS to version 6.3(5) doesn't help either. Is it because the bootstrap version is too old?

Most of the limitations on the 5500s are due to the cards and not in fact to the OS running on the switch. You may want to look into the cards themselves rather than the OS. Also, the 5500 has a 3.2GB backplane, so adding a port channel isn't really buying you too much. This may have been a design consideration in whether or not to support GECs in the 5500.
