Hi,
I would appreciate some advise on the following:
Background:
a cat6506 IOS 12.2(18).SXD3 is powered with redundant power supply(WS-CAC-1000W). currently, power supply 2 failed. From command, show power status all, it shows that the model of the power supply is WS-CAC-1000W, on the power supply printed 1300W. Cisco website(http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/products/hw/switches/ps708/prod_eol_notice0900aecd802e87bb.html) states that WS-CAC-1000W is EOL and should be replaced by WS-CAC-3000W.
1) With combination of WS-CAC-1000W and WS-CAC-3000W, I believe WS-CAC-3000W is hot-swappable?
2) When the power supply 2 is inserted, would it causes a downtime?
3) based on the website(http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/products/hw/switches/ps708/products_installation_guide_chapter09186a008020e0d3.html#wp1030022), I believe I am still able to get a power supply redundancy with both WS-CAC-1000W and WS-CAC-3000W? The link states that for unequal wattage(in this case WS-CAC-1000W and WS-CAC-3000W), I am still able to get a power supply redundancy since it states that "For Cisco IOS, both power supplies come on. The total available wattage is the output wattage of the higher wattage power supply."?
Thanks,
Christina

1) With combination of WS-CAC-1000W and WS-CAC-3000W, is WS-CAC-3000W hot-swappable? should be yes?
A; YES
2) When the power supply 2 is inserted, would it causes a downtime? should be no?
A: NO
3) based on the website(http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/products/hw/switches/ps708/products_installation_guide_chapter09186a008020e0d3.html#wp1030022), I believe I am still able to get a power supply redundancy with both WS-CAC-1000W and WS-CAC-3000W? should be yes?
A: YES, Any combination of PS types will operate together (including mixed AC and DC input types), though Cisco do not recommend this as a standard operating practice.
The key caveat for this situation is that the customer needs to treat the configuration as if both units are of the lower output rated type. (See that link you referenced).
