Catalyst 6500 ASLB and Local Directors

I understand it is a feature of 6500 Series switches that they can be configured to send the first packet for a destination to a Local Director first for a decision. After the decision has been made by the Local Director "once only" the 6500 routes packets to that destination, bypassing the Local Director. This can take a significant load off the Local Director.

Q1) Is my understanding correct?

Q2) Can resilience be built into such a

configuration?

Here is an example of redundancy with the local director and the switch.
