We are running IOS based 6509s in redundant environment (i.e redundant switches) running IOS Version 12.2(17d)SXB4.
We have to replace a 16 port GE module in one of the 6509 but the hardware and software version of the spare module is not compatible with the one that is currently installed in active switch. Spare module is having HW version 1.7 whereas the insatlled module had 1.8.
Software version of the active module is 12.2(17d)SXB4, whereas for the spare is 12.2(17d)SXB2.
The active switch also has another GE module currently working OK.
Can we downgrade/upgrade SW/HW verison of the module?
Can we have modules of same type running different HW/SW verisons in each 6509 since the card redundancy is not provided in same switch?
Does any one knows Cisco web link that can prove this ?
thanks

Usually minor hardware version number differences don't make any difference . I was a little confused , are you saying that the backup is in a different 6509 running a slightly lower version and you are going to just pull it out of that and replace ? If so once you install it in the working unit it is just going to load 12.2.17SXB4 , it will load whatever code is running on the supervisor .

Thanks.
Do you know cisco web page that says that minor hardware versions will not make any difference ?
The card that we are we are going to replace is of different HW/SW version as compare to spare.
