Choosing of port for new translation entry in case of NAT (PAT)

Hi

Can anybody please halp on this.

In case of port address translation cisco seems to be statring the inside local/global translated port from 1025 onwards, but why does it retains the translated port number even after clearing the nat translation by using "clear ip nat translation *" command, and takes next port to create translation entry (even if you initiate the connection from same ip).

Any help is highly appreciated.

Thanx in advance

The port is tabled separately in memory. To clear NAT overflow translations, you’ll have to reboot the router. Port assignments will be any port needed >1024. You cannot specify which ports it uses.

Thanks poplitz for help, but I have seen this, even though I reboot the cisco it retains the port number, I am using Cisco3660, ios 12.1(3)T.

Any specific reason to retain the port number ??

Thanx in advance
