Cisco 1700 boot problem

I uploaded the image in the Cisco 1700 from c1700-y-mz.122-4.YA2.bin to c1700-y-mz.122-4.YA6.bin.

But I started getting the error "Serial0/0 is up, line protocol is down" on the router 2600 which has a serial link to the 1700 on which we did the upgrade.

1700 was in a remote location, so we brought it in our office and it came up in "rommon" mode. I erased the flsh, brought in c1700-y-mz.122-4.YA6.bin via tftp.

I have the following 2 questions:

1. How do I check what versions of IOs are compatible wiht my WAN card.

2. How do I make the router take this configuration on startup as everytime I reset the router, it comesup in rommon mode adn I have to mannually boot it form the configuration file.

The following outputs (sh diag nad sh ver) might be helpful:

your config register is set to the wrong values , try this

router#conf t

router#(conf)config-register 0x2102

router# reload

Before I got yoor reply, I changed it to 0x8002 and now it is working fine. I dont understand what's going on. Should one set the value of the confgiuration register to the value appearing in the last line of the 'sh ver' command or should it

always be 0x2102.

Can I go ahead and configure the router. Please see output of current sh ver below:

Router#sh ve

the second 0 refer to NVRAM if it is set to 0 it will load the config srom NVRAM , After you get the config corrected I would set the config reg to 0x2102
