Can you tie the ethernet port speed down on a cisco 2500 router to either 10MB or 100MB? I know you can tie ports down on a switch using the 'speed 10' command but that doesn't seem to work on a router. I know you've got the 'bandwidth' command but is that just for setting the speed of an ISDN line for example
thanks

As far as I know, 2500 routers only support Ethernet (10 Mbps). Fast Ethernet (100 Mbps) is not supported.
Hope this helps

Hi,
2500s do not come with FastE 100Mbps ports, they only support 10Base, therefore there is no need for a speed command.
Bandwidth is usually configured for the purposes of a routing protocol to calculate it's metric for example, and has no real influence on data throughput.
