You should be able to network boot an image from ROMMON using the

b command:

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/access/acs_mod/cis4000/4000m/4000sig/45rommon.htm

Once the router has netbooted you can then download a new image to flash & bootflash

thanks .But iam getting the following error

rommon 2 > b c4500-i-mz.120-25 xx.xx.xx.xx

device does not contain a valid magic number

boot: cannot open "bootflash:"

an alternate boot helper program is not specified

(monitor variable "BOOTLDR" is not set)

and unable to determine first file in bootflash

loadprog: error - on file open

boot: cannot load "c4500-i-mz.120-25 xx.xx.xx.xx

xx.xx.xx.xx stands for ip addresses

can help me.

thanks

You could try altering the confing register to netboot by using the confreg command, then when prompted by "enter to boot:" enter 2 (2-15 = boot system ), then select Y "under do you wish to change the configuration? y/n [n]:"

and then enter reset to reboot.

This should cause the system to try and netboot an image called cisco2-4500 (or similar), try it and see what format the image name it in, then rename your image to the name the system is trying to boot and it should work (your TFTP server need to be locally attached, it will not work over a routed hop).

Another way of doing this is to use aanother 4500 or 4700 with a spare flash socket and simply do a format & copy. This procedure also works if you loos your 6500 images.
