I recently bought a cisco 831 router for my home LAN.However I cannot get to work with my cable modem, I have tried 2 831 routers but no joy. I know cable modem is working because I am able to use an old broadband router and it works. Please can somebody tell if the 831 works with cable modem and if it does what do I need to do to make it work?
When I connect the 831 I DO NOT get any internet light connections either from router or cable modem. I checked the the WAN interface and it say Ethernet1 UP, but LINE PROTOCOL DOWN??
Please help, I am pulling my hair out, because I read on the cisco website that it works with cable modem?
Somebody please help

What type of cable are you using? Straight-through or crossover?
Can you post the output of "show interface" here?

Thanks for replying, I have sorted it out, I found that I had a speed mis-match between my cable modem and my router.
Thanks all the same.
cheers
