Now, to answer your question: You can never go wrong with the CCNA. Many people in the industry (including myself) started with that certification. I remember it very well as I studied hard for it but failed the exam on my first attempt :)
With that said, the CCENT is really the starting/entry point for people that are just getting into the industry. Back when I took the CCNA, there wasn't a CCENT exam so the CCNA was my only option.
