I run #sh proc cpu, can see:
CPU utilization for five seconds: 100%/81%; one minute: 87%; five minutes: 80%
but I cannot find in the any high cpu process according to the PID.
Do you know why?
The high cpu utilization make the logn ping time even timeout.
05-08-2006 09:45 PM
It normally over 80% but I cannot find which process has high CPU, all process around 0.xx%.
When the BGP Scanner run, it touch 100%. I think BGP Scanner run is normal, just don't know what process already occupy 80% cpu usage.

Hi, if you use the "show proc cpu sorted" command you would get the list sorted with the highest % at the top, would be easier to see if you might have just missed it.
And next question, what kind of router do you have, and what does it do.

Hi
Can you paste the output of show processes cpu and show processes cpu sorted ?

This is a much cleaner way to get only the high processes.
show process cpu | exclude 0.00%__0.00%__0.00%

There is a very good document about troubleshooting high CPU caused by the BGP scanner
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk365/technologies_tech_note09186a00801c4f48.shtml
05-09-2006 12:44 AM
That may not caused by the BGP Scanner

Sorry, I posted the link before I saw your output from the sh proc cpu.
Is there a lot of traffic going through your router?
Do you have some sort of debuging on,
use the "no debug all" just to make sure there isn't anything going on in the background.
What sort of router is it?
And what IOS do you have?
05-09-2006 04:47 AM
In addition to the above post are you seeing any logs in your router which indicates any spurious activities ..

There is cause of cpu overload:
- nat
- debug all (runing)
-bgp
please try
- activate ip cef, it'll reduce automatically cpu usage
- if nat is running, you can tun the nat
- if debug all is on, turn off the debug
- if it is bgp because too enougth routing information , you can filter the input information with prefix-list.
Best regards.
