CiscoWorks problem with name resolution

forumhealth

Running CWLMS 2.2 on Solaris

RME 3.5

CM3.3

Using a local hosts file, approx. 190 entries. All but 16 devices are discovered with the proper name resolution. Those for which name resolution via the hosts table does not work can be pinged from the server by hostname, so the assumption is that the hosts file is ok. All devices were initially discovered before the hosts file was created. All devices were deleted, and then rediscovered. All came in fine except these. I have deleted them is RME and CM, but they are rediscovered again without the names. I have seen several threads on this, but no resolution. Any help is greatly appreciated.

CW2000 requires name resolution to work properly. The issues you are

seeing could be caused by failing name resolution.

A working DNS server in the network is strongly recommended. As an alternative you could use the Windows host file. WINS

is not a supported name resolution schema.

The following also must work properly:

nslookup [IP] (where [IP] is the IP address of the server)

nslookup [HOSTNAME] (where [HOSTNAME] is the name of the server)

nslookup [FQDM] (where [FQDN] is the fully qualified domain name

of the server.)
