Dear Team,

Can confirm the attached system architecture for the small industrial lan network. (Cisco 3850 & Cisco 3750 switches)

Thanks & Regards,

Hi Dinesh,

Perhaps it is a limitation of the excel diagram (good effort by the way!), but are your catalyst switches stacked together? If not then you should have a stack of 2x C3750X-12S and 2x C3850-12S.

If the fibre permits it you should run 2 pairs of fibre from each EDS access switch and connect one pair to each of the C3850 switches and configure them as a port-channel. This will give you increased bandwidth and resiliency. This will consume all of the 12 SFP+ ports on the switches, so two Network Modules (C3850-NM-2-10G) will need to be purchased to allow the connection to the C3750 stack. Again this link should be a port-channel, you could save some money on optics and use two 10 meter (the longest available) Twinax (SFP-H10GB-CU10M) cables.

You haven't explained what the C3750X switches are for, routing? It would be useful to know what else they connect to? Perhaps their function could be folded into the C3850 stack with additional licensing.

cheers,

Seb.

##- Thank you for your prompt response.

Main problem is SFP modules to be installed inside 3850 switch. Other side we are having 6 stations (8KM away) with Moxa switch 100BaseFX single-mode port, We procured GLC-FE-100FX for 3850 switch however same will support only 2 Km and this SFP will support only 1GB.

We are checking for compatible SFP module for 3850 switch to communicate with Moxa switch 100 base FX port.

If possible please advise the SFP module model number for 3850 switch.

The 3750 switch is connected with SCADA system already having data connections from different stations.

The 3750 & 3850 linking we are planning from Port 12 of 3850 to Port 12 of 3750 with 1G GLC-FE-100FX, please confirm this solution will work.

Thank you very much for your co-operation.

Hi Dinesh,
The 100MB SFP requirement is very limiting, as for covering the 8KM distance you will require the GLC-FE-100LX which is not supported on many switches and on none which have the required number of SFP ports.

It may be much simpler to buy media converters for the the remote locations. This would allow you to run GLC-LH-SM SFPs between the C3850 and the remote site media converters. You could then connect the media converter via UTP to the Moxa switch.

Regarding the connection between the 3850 and 3750, you may as well use GLC-T or GLC-SX-MM SFPs.

cheers,
Seb.
