Help needed pls ,got Cisco 3660 router on my lan handling Vlan routing ,that connects into Catalyst 5509 ,i installed new Cisco 2620 ,i created new vlan for segment on 3660 router and added port on 5509 where new 2620 plugs into to new vlan group. I use ISL encapsulation on 3660. The problem is that the new 2620 can not ping anything behind 5509. Does port on 5509 have to be trunk ? Or is there something else i`m missing ?

The 3660 should have an IP address in this vlan also. Otherwise there will be no connection to the rest of the L3 network.

The link to the 2620 need not be a trunk. The 2620 needs ip connectivity to the 3660 though.

Did you define the correct vlan-id on the 5509?

Leo
