Connecting LAN to cable with 1 ethernet, 2 serials..

Hi.. I'm wondering if it would be possible to use a router with 1 ethernet port and 2 serial interfaces to connect a LAN to broadband internet (cable)?

I want to know if you can buy adapters for that or something...

I assume that what you want to do is put a router between a cable Internet connection and a LAN. I wanted to do the same thing. The problem is that cable modems typically come with either an ethernet port or a USB port. There are some USB to Serial convertors but they are for RS232 (around 256K max) so it would not make sense to get a cable Internet connection only to run it at slow serial speeds. There are two ways you can do what you want:

1. Get a router with two ethernet ports

2. Get a router and a switch that both support trunking. Create one VLAN for the cable modem and another VLAN for the internal LAN. Create the two VLAN interfaces on the router and setup your routing.

Or, as I decided to do, setup a Linux box with two ethernet cards ;-)

Yeah I did that too, set up a router with linux and 2 NICs... but finally I bought a small SMC router.
