We would be using a Catalyst 3508 at the MDF and have it connected to a Catalyst 3548 via Cat-5e cable. This set-up will be for interconnecting two buildings and we plan implement copper solutions via a WS-G5482 Copper GBIC. I was wondering, if this cable can go beyond the 100 meter mark... please provide other insigts if possible.

Including all patches you might be able to get away with a max of 120 meter but that's it. Anything longer you will need to go to fiber instead, which I would go for between buildings anyhow, maybe with the Cat5E as backup.

I was under the impression that you couldn't run Gigabit Ethernet over copper further than 25 meters? Perhaps I'm confused with something else? Let me know..

Cabling distance (maximum): 328-ft (100m)
