Hello Cisco expert,

We need to upgrade our two Core 4506-E Switche with at least 5x 10G and 45x 1G uplinks for Access Switche and this could be fixed or modular Switch. Can anyone suggest me the best solutions for selecting the new Switche? will be thankful.

Looking next 5 years to protect your investment, then i look for Catalyst 9500 is the product for now.

Other alternative Cat 6800 - if you like to consider.

Are you looking to replace that chassis, or is adding/upgrading cards in your existing chassis an option too?

Hi Joseph,

We are going to upgrade our chassis, this could be a modular or fixed Switch solution.

The 9400 series appears to be the replacement for the 4500 series. Or, as already mentioned by Balaji, the 9500 might be considered too. Both of there are new series, and I've not used them, so cannot say how stable they are. However, real new boxes do tend to come with some "teething pains".

As also mentioned by Balaji, the 6800 series might be considered too, or you might also consider the 3650/3850 series of stackable L3 switches.

My experience with Cisco equipment, their chassis switches and/or higher end Enterprise switches seem to be more stable and/or offer more internal hardware resources than their stackable switches, something to consider for a core device.
