I am about to install cisco LAN manager on our VLAN'd network. Is there anything I have to set up on the switches like SNMP before it can work? Never done this before so I need to know where to start!

You must have CDP and SNMP configured on your switches, in order for the Campus Manager application of Cisco LAN Manager to be able to manage your switches.
Make sure that your SNMP strings are different from each other, and try to stay away from any special characters. Best thing to do is just use alpha-numerics.

CDP is necessary for the discovery process, and so that links can be established between your devices.
