Data compression technology maximizes bandwidth and increases WAN link efficiency by enabling more data to be sent in every packet. The LAN segment has enough BW and hence I don't see the necessity for compression since it would increase the overhead.

Agreed, Normally there is enough BW to handle most any requirements....However this is a special case.....The application we are dealing with requires/generates....320-420kbps per unit , per screen. With compression on (over a T1 link) we were able to get this down to 32kbps. Now we have a customer who wants to deploy this remote viewing solution without forking out the bucks for a telco circuit while he has an existing Ethernet-type WAN.
