DDR encapsulation failed at called end trying to respond

I have a dial up link between two routers using the serial ports and synchronus modems. I set up a simple dial link like this on both ends except for the ip and phone #s. Encapsulation is hdlc and no authentication.

interface Serial1

ip address 10.0.0.2 255.255.255.0

dialer in-band

dialer enable-timeout 2

dialer wait-for-carrier-time 40

dialer map ip 10.0.0.1 1

dialer hold-queue 20

dialer-group 1

pulse-time 1

!

ip classless

dialer-list 1 protocol ip permit

I can get it to dial and connect both directions. Sending host gets encap errors until line comes up, thats normal. Problem is the responding host says no dialer available and gets encapsulation errors trying to answer. It doesn't seem to know the link is up even though it just received data on it.

Anyone got any ideas?

Try to use encapsulation PPP instead of hdlc. With that it should work.
