I'm planning to upgrade the ios on a 6500 switch with a sup720/pfc3/msfc3. how do i determine the amount of RAM on the supervisor? The show version command displays "cisco WS-C6509 (R7000) processor (revision 3.0) with 458752K/65536K bytes of mem
ory." Do I add the two numbers together? Also how do I determine the size of the flash memory on a standby supervisor? The output of show version only shows"Standby has 458752K/65536K bytes of memory" Please see output of show version below. Thanks.

Hi
To figure out how much DRAM is installed add the 2 numbers together and devide the total by 1024.
I will see if I can find out how to find out how much Flash is installed in the standby supervisor, and will update post.

Hi,
You dont need to add both numbers together. The output:
Standby has 458752K/65536K bytes of memory, means that Your standby supervisor has 512 Mb of DRAM and 65 Mb of Flash. The other way to see it, if You are in ROMMON. When it boots you see :
-----
System Bootstrap, Version 7.1(1)
Copyright (c) 1994-2001 by cisco Systems, Inc.
c6k_sup2 processor with 524288 Kbytes of main memory
-----
where 524288 Kbytes is the amount of DRAM.
I have sup720 with 512 MB and have the same output from show ver. Moreover if You have sup720 the minimal amount of DRAM to run iso is 512MB.
Hope that helped.

Michal
