Hi

Can someone explain the difference between 100BaseT and 100BaseTX please?

And also what is the meaning of 'Base'? I read it as Base singalling, but I do not understand what exactly does it mean.

Thanks!

Omal

Actually 100BaseT is the generic name assigned to FastEthernet technology. Again 100BaseT is of three types.

1. 100BaseTx

2. 100BaseT4.

3. 100BaseFx

100BaseTx use 4 wires, while 100BaseT4 uses 8 wires. 100BaseFx uses 2 strands of MMF.

100BaseTx requires that you use Cat5 STP cable.

100BaseT4 can be run on Cat3, 4 or 5 UTP cable.

Hope that helps!

100BaseT and 100BaseTX are basically the same thing. Technically I think 100BaseT would encompass all the 100BaseT (copper) technologies (ie: 100BaseTX (RJ45 - 2 pair), 100BaseT4 (RJ45 - 4 pair)) vs. the 100BaseF (optical) technologies.

As for the "base", there are two types of signalling, broadband and baseband. If you don't know the difference, check here...
