What are, in a nutshell, the differences between the NM cards and the WIC cards?

Network Modules are big modules which come with interfaces likr fastethernet, T1, ISDN, serial etc. and with emply slots in them for WAN interface cards or VIC or VWICs.
WIC, VIV and VWICS can be physically inserted in these NMs but they should be compatible with each other.
Here is good link for inter-operability between diferent NMs and WICs, VICs and VWICs :

A module (NM) allows you to have a high density of interfaces connecting to it, e.g. 8 serial connections or BRI interfaces.
A WIC is designed to give you flexibilty.
You can get NM's that also have WIC slots, so if your router only supports NM's and you need an additional FE interface plus a serial interface, you can for example get a NM-1FE2W which gives you a FE interface plus two WIC slots.
So in this instance you could have a WIC-1T in one of your WIC slots.

as the names say wic = wan interface card.
NM = network Module.
wic goes up to 8megs.
nm goes up to 133megs as it is a pci bus as known on pc's.

This is bus speed or interface speed?(I assume it is interface speed).

This is bus speed as there are donzens of interface types with different interface speeds for both card types.
