Directly connected routers can not ping each other

I have two routers connected over a point to multipoint broadband link, the modems running in bridge mode. Hence the routers see themselves as directly connected. But the situation is that they can not ping each other. The arp-cache shows each other mac address correctly, and they show up also on the CDP neighbors. I can ping other routers on the network from both rotuers. Also funny is that if it is forced to route through one of these other routers, it pings, but this is not desired. Duplex settings and speed have been cross-checked. I have encryption, but this is tied to the LAN interfaces and not the WAN interfaces. Does anyone have ideas why I would not be able to ping across the link that it sees has a directly connected interface.

Thank you

I also have a puzzling ping problem simular to yours, what routing protocol are you using ? Are the broadband connections included ? Have you tried redistribute connected subnets?

My post is: pinging over frame-relay to OSPF area0
