DLSW+ on frame relay

Hi,

I'm confused with different type of peers: TCP, Direct, and FST. How do they work together?

I have seen configurations with two router over frame relay, both router uses both TCP and Direct frame-relay peer configuration, why it is needed to use both encapsulation methods (TCP and Direct Frame-relay)? is it enough with one method?

Thanks.

The choice of encapsulation methods is usually governed by how reliable you think the transport method is.

You can mix and match Direct or TCP in your network.

If I mix the encapsulation methods, what's really going on in the network? which encapsulation method is chosen?

Thanks.

encapsulation methods are configured on a per peer basis. I can configure one dlsw peer to have tcp encapsulation, one to have FST, and a third to be direct.

the points to consider are:

1. tcp is the most reliable, and has the most overhead.

2. mixing modes in a large network can drive you crazy at 2 in the morning.
