I recently configured two ports for FEC using the "set port channel 10/47-48 mode on" command. However when I run the "show cam dynamic 10/47" command, I show two mac addresses, consequently some of my users cannot connect to the server. I changed the command to set port channel 10/47-48 mode desirable". Now the ports seem to fail over ok and all users can connect. My question is are both ports "aggregated" for more bandwidth to the server or are they just being used for failover. My server is a compaq DL360 with dual integrated 10/100 ports using compaq/Intel teaming software, they are set to "load balancing with fault tolerance" and "Balance with mac address".
Lastly I have several other FEC and GEC channels setup on this switch and they work fine with the "normal" way to setup etherchannel. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in Advance

That's what etherchannel is for aggregating bandwidth for greater thruput . You can specify how it allocates the channel by incoming ip , outgoing ip etc ...

etherchannel is basically used for load balancing but th load balancing is does either on the basis of IP or MAC of the source/destination or both. It is a 17 bit has polynomial algorithm used and a xor function applied to decide which link to use. If your traffic is onlyhitting one IP/mAC and u r algo points towards destination then the traffic will always take one link and it will use the other if the frst one fails . Let me know if this helps
