Fast rerouting

On this moment, FRR can only be intriduced togheter with pos interfaces.

Can someone explain me what is the advantage of this and why it is'net working together with serial interfaces.

I no it had to do something with teh time an error on the link can detected. If there is someone can explain me this.

I'm _guessing_ that the sort of fast rerouting you're talking about relies on layer signals provided by SONET, and no other layer 2 protocols (at this point).
