File copy swamping the bandwidth

Hello Networkers,

I am currently facing an issue with the some users using up all bandwidth when they initiate large data transfers. The site has a 20Mbps Ethernet circuit and is used to connect to the corporate MPLS network.

When a user tries to copy large files i.e. files larger then 5Gb I have seen that they end up using the entire bandwidth. Is their a way to limit the bandwidth utilized by these transfers ? I was thinking about using QoS to limit these but unable to figure out how to restrict them using QoS.

Please advise.

Regards

RK

Hi

Yes qos is the way to go you need to create class-map and policy-map ,match the traffic using an extended access-list with the specific protocol there using for downloading or just match the protocol itself and police it to whatever amount of bandwidth you think should be oK

This shows an example

Like Mark, I too think QoS might be your answer.  Besides policing, shaping might be a better approach.

How QoS might be used depends on the circuit and your platform.
