Im I correct in saying that the command:

SET SPANTREE PRIORITY 0 5

will prevent this particular Cat5000 from ever becoming the root for spanning tree on vlan 5. I think so but I'm not positive. Can anyone confirm this. Thanks.

You can set the bridge priority to 65536 for that vlan which will prevent it to become the root bridge.

Are you running PVST?

Although setting the priority to this valuen will make it unlikely that the switch will ever become the route. If another switch has the same priority there is no guarentee. I am looking for a solution that will guarentee that the switch will never become the root. This is is a configuration running PVST. Thanks.
