Hi
DLCI are only like a local address for the router to the frame relay cloud right? the DLCI doesnt actually go throught the cloud.

no, dlci is the number of vc and a part of the FR-header.

the DLCI is assigned on the Frame Relay switch for the connection for the switch to the router. The router puts the DLCI number in the Frame Relay header which it sends to the switch. The switch will take the frame from the incoming DLCI and output it - probably with a different DLCI on its outbound path and the switch will re-write the DLCI in the header.
So yes the DLCI is in the header, but it is local to the router and its connected switch. The DLCI value does not go through the Frame Relay network. The DLCI vlaue of the transmitted data frame is probably different from the DLCI value where the data frame is received.
