what can be a usual problem if the router does not boots and gives out garbage characters...no rommon...notthing

Hello,

you might want to check for a speed setting mismatch on your terminal emulator. The default is 9600, but that could have been changed. Try different speed settings, if that works check the config for the speed command under the line con 0 and set it to 9600.
