I am working with an 806 router. When recalling previously typed commands I can use ctrl+p (and ctrl+n to go forward) but when I use the Up arrow the router immediately performs the last command again (like typing the command AND hitting Enter). Is there a way to change this so that I can use the up arrow key to go through the commands that are in the history buffer?

If you are using a program like hyper term to connect you need to change your setting to use terminal keys as opposed to windows keys. it is under properties and the settings tab

OK that didn't work. Switched setting to 'windows keys' but that only allows me to move up and see the previous hyperterminal lines it doesn't allow me to recall any commands. Any other suggestions to set the arrow keys to recall recently entered commands?

It has to do with your terminal emulation. try setting it to ANSI
