How do you set up a Static VLAN on a Cisco Catalyst 3500XL switch, using the Cisco Switch Manager 12.0 web interface?
I am new to network switches so apologies if this is very basic.
My understanding of VLAN's is that ports in one VLAN are completely separate from ports in another VLAN?
Are VLANs secure, ie is there any way for devices connected to one VLAN to access(Ping, Telnet, etc) devices connected to another VLAN?
Thanks and regards,
Joe

The following page on CCO should tell you how to assign VLANs to interfaces using VSM and also through CLI
http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/c2900xl/29_35xp/olhelp/basichlp.htm
http://cio.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/c2900xl/29_35wc5/scg/index.htm
If you want ports in different VLANs to talk to each other, you'll need a router to do intervlan routing

Is it also possible to specify a range or static list of IP addresses that are allowed access a specific port?

Here is a doc explaining creating VLANS on 3500XL

Here is a doc explaing intervlan routing , vlans security, and overall design.

I may be mistaken, but I don't think you can create VLANS via cisco switch manager except by command line. I never used this cisco switch manager, but it seems from what I have gather that it only alouds for other types of GUI configs such as switch ports managerment and other multicast features.
