My 2501 router lost its IOS image, now when reload, it comes into Router(boot)# state. When I issue copy tftp flash command, it tell me Device is Read-Only.

Please tell me how to handle this issue? Many Thanks.

Hello,

AFAIR, you need to set the configuration register to 0x2101, reboot the device, copy from TFTP to flash, and then set the configuration register to 0x2102:

config t

config-reg 0x2101

CTRL Z

wr mem

reload

-----------------------------------------------------

enable --> should return with: router(boot)#

copy tftp flash

-->Enter the necessary IP number of the tftp server}

-->Enter the name of the upgrade file

config t

config-reg 0x2102

CTRL Z

and reboot. Can you try this and see if it works for you ?

Hi

I tried with your ways:

I changed to 0x2101,then reload. But when I copy tftp flash again, the router still tells me

Router(boot)#copy tftp flash

ERR: Device in READ-ONLY state

So it does not work. Any comments? Thanks.

Hi

If the Flash shows Read Only even after going to boot mode, there may be an issue with the Flash. Power down the router and reseat the Flash Single In-line Memory Modules (SIMMs). If it still shows Read Only, the Flash may need to be replaced.

Let me know how you get along.

Thanks
