Hello everybody,

first of all my apologies if this is not the best forum to ask the question. We have to change our CPD ubication and we want to

do a new distribution in our racks. Can anyone send us some link or consideration to do it?. For example, patch panel in the top,

and switches below and so on...

Regards.

Ciao Antonio,
Generally you prefer to take a decision after realising which kind of switches/routers you are going to install in the rack. However, should these switches being big enough (e.g. 6509 or Nexus 5k) you want to set the patch panel just one unit or two above your switch and eventually a router at the top of the rack. Should you instead be installing FEX , then a common design would be FEX on top, patch panel in the middle and Nexus on the bottom. Remember that you need units of space for ventilations(fans)

Hope this helps

Fibre optic tray on top, 1-RU cable management, 32-port copper patch panels and interspaced with 1-RU cable management.

Routers/Switches in the middle (starting from the middle) and servers starting from the bottom going up.

If you have Nexus, you need to consider airflow. Some people like their nexus 5k/2k ports to be on the same side as the servers and use the correct airflow fans.

You may also want to consider a 1-RU pull tray to rest your laptop if you can't have access to a KVM.

Inter-cabinet fiber optic tray would also be helpful.

Redundant power-distribution control with IP connectivity would also be nice.
