Hi there,
my 831 router stopped working after I used the 'reset to factory defaults' in the CRWS.
I then connected it using hyperterminal, and I got the message
boot: cannot determine first file name on device "flash:"
I've searched the software downloads, but I didn't find anything specifically relating to the 831. So my question is: what do I have to download and which procedure do I have to follow to fix the problem?

Hi
what is the status of the router now ? is it on rommon mode or in boot mode ??
if in rommon, give a command dir flash: and see if it shows the ios image.. if it shows, then issue a command boot flash:xyz (image name) , and then it will boot from the flash with the right image.. If not, your flash might be corrupted.. replace the flash and see if it comes up... i hope there is a valid ios image on the flash of the router..
do let us know

Hi Raj, thanks for replying.
I gave the command dir flash:
the response was:
File size Checksum File name
and nothing else. If my flash is corrupted, how do I replace it (fysically replacing a chip, or just uploading software?)? And where do I get the appropriate version for this type?
eagerly awaiting your reply,
Ruben

Hi Ruben,
I dont think ur flash (hardware) is corrupt.. otherwise it would have given an error when trying to open the flash.... there seems to be no IOS on your flash..you can do a xmodem/tftp and upload the IOS .. you can download the IOS from CCO, through someone...
See the document below. This might help you..
See if the procedure given above works... rate replies if found useful

Hi Raj,
glad to hear uploading IOS could be all that is needed. However, I can't seem to dl IOS, I keep getting a page with a #401 not registered message.
Do I need to get a special subscription to dl IOS ??? (or, if I understand your 'through someone...' correctly, can someone else dl it for me?)

Hi Ruben
you need to have a cco login for downloading IOS. normally cisco partners will have access to this. just contact your cisco partners for this...
