I have two 3825 routers that I want to configure for HSRP. I want the routers to act as follows: when the active router is unavailable, the standby router becomes active. But, when the previous active router becomes available again, I don't want it to automatically resume the role as the active router until I manually force it. Does the below configuration look like it will behave that way?
Router A
interface GigabitEthernet0/1
ip address 10.0.0.1 255.255.255.0
standby 1 ip 10.0.0.3
standby 1 timers 5 15
Router B
interface GigabitEthernet0/1
ip address 10.0.0.2 255.255.255.0
standby 1 ip 10.0.0.3
standby 1 timers 5 15
Thanks

Since you are not using preempt command, the above config should do it automatically.

Thanks.

If you dont have the preempt command on the active router it wont resume active role until you switch them back. Also you have not mentioned any priority which makes it easy to select one of the routers as active and other standby.
Give the command "standby 1 priority 110" on one of the routers.
"standby 1 preempt" is what causes active router to steal the status back from the standby router. You dont have this command entered, so you should be fine.
